A few weeks ago a colleague mentioned to me that in another life they would have been a musician. I responded by saying that in another life I would have been some sort of athlete. As the words were coming out of my mouth, they just felt wrong. F that. Why not in this life?
I'm planning to make 2025 epic. Next year I'm turning 40, and it's hitting different. Turning 30, no problem. Turning 40... not the same. Lately there has also been too many reminders about how fragile life can be. All we really have is the now, nothing is permanent, and someday may never come. So, I'm in the process of shifting my mindset to prioritize spending my time doing the things that light me up.
Of course there are items like looking after my health (physical, mental, and spiritual), spending more time with friends and family, giving my dog her best life, and personal projects. What really makes me come alive though, is playing outside. And not only playing outside, but also pushing myself while doing it. Think endurance and adventurous activities. Bring on that Type II Fun.
There are a number of events I'm planning for next year: biking all 650 km of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, 29029 Trail and Everesting, Runningman Festival, Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race, Peak Challenge Trail Race, and more. The biggest challenge I see right now is, surprisingly, not a physical one - it's the cost. I need to figure out a way to attract sponsors (more on that later).
I've restarted a couple of my social media accounts (Instagram, YouTube) with the goal of inspiring, encouraging, and enabling people to play outside. I believe people who spend more time in nature are healthier, happier humans - and that’s a good thing for everyone. Let's go.
